Description
Growth in the green and cleantech economy depends on developing innovative ideas, reworking existing production processes and commercializing new products. Universities and local government can play an important role in all of these processes, as demonstrated in many regions across California.

Sponsored by the United States Economic Development Administration and UC-Berkeley, this conference will draw on the experiences of both the public and private sector in growing the green economy through innovation. We will bring together policymakers, community leaders, business leaders, and scholars, to discuss how to identify and incentivize innovation and job growth. Topics to be discussed include green economic development research and policy, along with the role of universities, local government and venture capital in the green and cleantech economy.

Speakers will include:
- Dr. Paul Alivisatos, Director, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab
- Panama Bartholomy, Advisor to the California Energy Commission
- Carla Din, Executive Director, East Bay Green Corridor Partnership
- Prof. Jerry Engel, Director of Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Haas School of Business
- John Fernandez, Assistant Secretary, Department of Commerce
- Bonnie Graybill, Deputy Division Chief, Labor Market Information Division, California Employment - Development Department
- Tracey Grose, Vice President, Collaborative Economics
- Dr. William Kittredge, Director, Performance and National Programs Division, EDA
- Marc van den Berg, Managing Director, VantagePoint Venture Partners

The conference will take place on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 9:00am-5:00pm at the David Brower Center, located at 2150 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA. Lunch will be provided.
